Session: YOUR STORY MATTERS. YOUR VOICE IS POWERFUL: How to Create Impact & Influence
"Why am I hiding?" Why, as women, are we hiding? ... our perspectives, our voices, our knowledge and even our powerful personalities.
After traveling the world and interviewing over 100+ people in my career with National Geographic (and other media outlets), putting story after story of others out into the world - from women scientists and technologists, to remote African women to the mom next door - I saw the POWER of one person's story and voice. And I discovered my own biggest truth: I was hiding.
Our story has the power to help another, to spark innovation, to grow empathy, to create entire movements, to lead better and, yes, to raise millions for NGOs and brands. Yet, why is it still hard to show up more authentic and 'be seen'?
We've inherited many stories from society, culture, family/friends and especially a male-dominated tech world as to how we're "supposed" to show up and act. Yet, how many of those stories truly align with who you are? And are those narratives we're telling ourselves - and the world - serving us well in where we want to go in life and work?
When we can truly know our story and own it, that is when great things happen. Whether you want to attract dreamy opportunities, spark innovation, connect with your team better, or whether you want to create a movement to change the world or your industry (or even a tiny slice of your world), your story matters and your voice is powerful.
